Experiencing eating disorders
Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses; they are not a lifestyle choice.
These disorders can be characterised by a preoccupation with eating, exercise and body weight or shape.
Distorted thoughts and emotions about body image and self-worth can lead to major changes in eating and exercise behaviours. These behaviours may include excessive dieting, fasting, overexercising, using medications, vomiting or binge eating.
An unhealthy relationship with food is quite often an attempt to deal with emotional issues such as low self-esteem or negative feelings.
