Create4 Art Exhibition
Create 4 Art Exhibition was held at the Incinerator Gallery in May 2019, celebrating the great work with nearly 70 pieces on display.
Art is a powerful form of self-expression, identity, and communication. It can serve as a therapeutic medium and a reflective tool for both artist and audience. ‘Create’ is an annual event that makes use of art’s expansive potential by providing consumers of mental health services with a platform to showcase their talent, perspective, and stories. It is one of a number of initiatives offered by the Inner West Area Mental Health Service that aims to facilitate holistic clinical mental health treatment for those living within the Moonee Valley and Melbourne city council area.
‘Create’ delivers an occasion for the wider community to gain some insight into the experiences and abilities of community members with lived experience of mental health issues. In doing so it builds connections and understanding within the community as well as bringing together consumers with a similar artistic passion. Through ‘Create’ artists are able to develop their talents, exhibit and sell their work, and establish ongoing contacts. Further vocational opportunities are also available to consumers in the organisation, promotion, and management of the event.
A very special thanks to all of those involved – this initiative would not be possible without the input and commitment from staff, consumers, family and other supporters.
