Mental health team supports asylum seekers during the festive season
The Aged Persons Mental Health Program have shared their goodwill and generosity as part of end of year Christmas celebrations, by donating food and grocery items to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre in Footscray.
The donations were delivered to the Centre by the Social Work team, who organised the drive and visited the Centre as part of their annual end-of-year visit to a community service agency.
The Centre’s Client Services Manager kindly provided the team with a tour of the centre, followed by a valuable education session on working with asylum seekers.
The team were amazed to hear how the service had grown in the space of only 17 years, from a small shop front with only a handful of volunteers to a very large organisation. Hundreds of staff and volunteers provide a whole range of health, legal, human rights, community, educational and social services.
