Congratulations to our 2018 Celebrating Excellence winners

The outstanding commitment, dedication and teamwork of Melbourne Health staff has been recognised at the 2018 Celebrating Excellence Awards held on Friday 23 November 2018.

Congratulations to the NorthWestern Mental Health winners and those who were highly commended.

The Melbourne Award

Winner:
Dr Jenepher Dakis, Head Consultant Psychiatrist, John Cade Unit.

With more than 20 years of service at Melbourne Health, Dr Dakis has displayed a constant drive to provide the best possible care for mental health consumers, while empowering her team to strive for the same excellence in care. Dr Dakis is passionate about the delivery of quality care in acute psychiatry. She volunteers her time to other inpatient units across the country, reflecting her commitment to improving mental health care Australia-wide. Over her years of service, Dr Dakis has provided care for approximately 10,000 consumers and her kindness and compassion for each of those consumers has been exceptional and inspiring.

Winner:
Enrolled Nurse Champion, Robyn Garlick, Senior Nurse, Aged Persons Mental Health Program.

For the past 10 years, Robyn has been a champion for Enrolled Nurses and is committed to their ongoing professional development and training. Robyn has successfully obtained a number of grants from the Department of Health and Human Services to further Enrolled Nurses’ skills in mental health, diabetes and aged care.

The Melbourne Supporting Great Care Award – NWMH Proudly supported by S.O. Asher

Winner:
NorthWestern Mental Health Tackling Tobacco Initiative, Tackling Tobacco Implementation Group.

Since 2015, NWMH has partnered with Quit Victoria to improve smoking cessation care at four NWMH pilot sites and reduce the health and social inequities driven by smoking. At each of the pilot sites, Tackling Tobacco has now been successfully incorporated into routine practice, with staff regularly having conversations with consumers about smoking and ways to quit.
